Eyecase for B+R
Focus on usability
When B+R developed an innovative opening concept for a top case, they approached us to ask us for help with the design.
We quickly realised that the circular element for locking the lid had to be the main protagonist of our design. Apart from the usual restrictions (maximum external dimensions to allow for palletisation, specified internal volume, production technology, etc.), we had a free hand in our work.
Two versions of the final concept remained in the running until the end – and so we decided to realise both versions in the 1:1 clay model in order to test how the differences would “feel” in a direct comparison.
In fact, the decision was made in favour of the version with the harder lines on the clay model. The fact that this product is still successful on the market more than 10 years later, while there is nothing left of the competitors of the time, shows that this decision was absolutely right.
