Submodel technology with the Submodel Inspector

Efficient sub-model technology for precise calculations.

The demands on physical modelling have increased. Models are becoming more detailed, calculations more complex – but computing capacity often cannot keep pace. Submodel technology offers an innovative solution to speed up calculations and achieve precise results.

Why the sub-model technique?

The optimum solution for complex calculations.

With the sub-model technique, critical areas of a model can be specifically isolated and finely meshed. This allows you to perform quick and precise calculations without having to recalculate the entire model. This saves you valuable time and increases the accuracy of your results at the same time.

Increase your efficiency, improve your results

Advantages of the submodel technique.

    • Faster calculations
    • High precision
    • Optimised work processes
    • Seamless integration

Automated process

Precise stress analyses with the Submodel Inspector

The Submodel Inspector in NX/Simcenter automates the submodel creation, meshing and transfer of boundary conditions, enabling even complex assemblies to be analysed quickly and precisely. The entire process takes place in three simple steps. An example: A welded assembly made of rectangular tubes shows a visible increase in stress that needs to be analysed more precisely. However, this is not possible due to the coarse meshing. With the Submodel Inspector, the submodel is created in just a few steps and the stress distribution is precisely analysed.

Limitations in submodel technology

The image on the left shows an assembly with several components, the grid and the superimposed voltage results. The stress concentration is visible in the detailed image (right). Although stressed areas are calculated, it is not possible to make precise statements about the level of stress due to the coarse meshing. This is where the sub-modelling technique comes into play. The process consists of three steps: analysing the rough model, creating the sub-model and interpolating the results.

However, this approach has a disadvantage: it requires considerable effort to create the submodel and transfer the displacement results. I have therefore developed a programme that automates these time-consuming and error-prone steps – the Submodel Inspector.
