Study

Systemic development and targeted realisation of lightweight construction potential

Overview

Viewing resource efficiency and CO₂ reduction as an opportunity

In the early stages of product development, crucial decisions are made regarding costs, CO₂ emissions and technical performance. The research project has created a holistic development process that systematically integrates lightweight construction – across all sectors.

Using a model-based approach, digital tools and practical methods, we help companies resolve conflicting objectives and develop sustainable, cost-effective products. A tried-and-tested guide enables easy integration into existing development processes.

Objective

Innovative solutions for lighter and more sustainable products

The aim is to develop a systematic product development process that enables the potential for lightweight construction to be identified and exploited at an early stage and efficiently. By integrating a model-based, digital workflow, the aim is to resolve conflicts between cost and technical performance and to capitalise on this potential.

Advantages

A bespoke toolkit for implementing the development process

Holistic approach to development
Early decision-making support through a model-based approach
Empowering the further development of one’s own strengths and skills
Customised tools & approaches

Project partners

An insight into the partners’ projects

Practical and applicable – whether in automation, medical technology or the consumer goods sector. The systemic approach enabled the partners to tap into new potential for lightweight construction, improve development processes and, at the same time, reduce CO₂ emissions.
