German Design Award Winner 2024
The d.u.h.Group and L.B. Bohle have been awarded the German Design Award 2024 for the redesign of three machines:
- the BFC 200 tablet coater,
- the BRC 100 dry granulator
- the QbCon® 1.
Another machine design by the d.u.h. Group for Albrecht Bäumer (a machine manufacturer for the foam industry) was also honoured: the Contour V-blade.
In many sectors, little importance is attached to industrial design, based on the assumption that engineers can handle this task themselves. However, the collaboration between the d.u.h. Group and L.B. Bohle demonstrates that the design of production machinery can have a decisive influence on a company’s long-term success.
In 2021, L.B. Bohle launched an initiative to redesign its entire product portfolio and commissioned the d.u.h.Group to carry out this project. The focus was not only on aesthetic changes, but also on technical optimisation and the redesign of the machines. The first three redesigned machines were presented at Interpack 2023, the leading trade fair for the packaging, pharmaceutical and process industries.
Feedback from trade fair visitors and staff was consistently positive. The presentation also succeeded in generating the desired level of interest in the machines and the company. “It was precisely this ‘I want that’ feeling that we wanted to spark, in order to generate a high level of enthusiasm for the machine and the company L.B. Bohle,” reports Thorsten Helm, Head of Design at the d.u.h.Group.

The three machines were honoured with the prestigious German Design Awards: the BRC 100 dry granulator and the QbCon® 1 were named ‘Winners’, whilst the BFC 200 tablet coater received a ‘Special Mention’. The d.u.h.Group was also honoured with a further “Winner” award for a machine manufactured by Albrecht Bäumer GmbH & Co. KG. The Contour V-blade enables precise, two-dimensional contour cutting and also features a new design.
The German Design Award sets international standards for innovative design developments and competitiveness in the global market, and recognises the design innovation and user-friendly focus of these machines.
